The Community Learning Approach

Every child’s parent is an active partner, volunteering alongside teachers to build a supportive community. Families participate in workshops that equip them to continue their child’s learning and development at home and beyond. Together, we nurture growth that benefits both children and their families.

Empowering Educators

The Garden School is a hub for advancing early childhood education across Liberia. Local teachers receive training in evidence-based practices, while educators from more distant communities are welcomed to stay, observe, and learn. Our teachers share proven methods that raise the quality of education within the community and throughout the country.

Discover Our Story

Located in Gbarnga, Bong County, Liberia, The Garden School serves children ages 3–5 in a safe and nurturing environment. With a focus on developmentally appropriate practices and the thoughtful use of local resources, the Garden School offers a unique approach within West Africa, providing a model of early education for Liberia’s youngest citizens.

A Model for

Early Childhood Education in Liberia

The Garden School prepares Liberia’s future citizens by teaching both the mind and the heart. Each day begins with a pledge to honesty, hard work, respect, and peaceful conflict resolution. Guided by this “Garden Pledge,” children learn to live the values they recite, reinforced by the school’s symbolic palaver hut, a space for dialogue and harmony.

Opportunities to Give

Generosity has built The Garden School. Through volunteer hours and transformative donations, every gift makes a difference, and every donor becomes part of our story.

While families pay $40 for a year of tuition, the real cost of educating each child is $670. Your support helps bridge that gap and ensures every child receives the education they deserve.

FOOD

With just $20, you can nourish a child for a month. With $200, you can provide the gift of meals for an entire year.

OPERATIONS

With $100, you can provide a month’s worth of school supplies. With $1,000, you can keep The Garden School running for a full year—covering every operating need beyond food and salaries.
